What’s familiar…

My law practice in Sag Harbor has a familiar setting — I am working out of my home office like many other lawyers in our village.

But I have been a home-owner in Sag Harbor since 1980 — longer than many attorneys in town — so I’ve had a chance to see, time and again, how community consensus is formed and I’ve been a part of that process on occasion.

Finally, most solo practitioners are most experienced in handling the legal issues that arise on the East End time and time again. Real estate closings, zoning and land use disputes, legal support for a growing business.

When the legal needs of a prospective client are beyond my areas of competence, I refer them to one of the lawyers in a trusted network of experts I have developed over decades; if the client prefers, I also can keep an eye on progress.

What’s different…

First of all, I have been engaged in the private practice of law for 40 years. There is some wisdom, understanding of human nature and pragmatism that comes with 40 my years of lawyering. Many clients find that background helpful.

Second, much of my career was spent on Wall Street or overseas. The transactions you confronted as a lawyer were exceptionally complex and you learned, by experience, how to navigate a dense field of facts and get to the nub of the matter. The navigational experience remains valuable in any type of legal practice… Including a solo practice on the East End.
